Habilitation


Habilitation is a qualification granted by the university upon the request of teachers in higher education. One can be awarded this title on the basis of his scientific-tutorial activities, the dissertations he/she presented with this purpose, his classes in Hungarian language and his scientific presentations in foreign language.

Obtaining the title is ‒ according to the regulations of ELTE ‒ a prerequisite of docent and college/academic teacher promotion.

The habilitation process can be started five years after the obtainment of PhD degree and on the same scientific field that the PhD had. The candidate must attach the following to his/her application:

-the scientific and tutorial habilitation material and
-a monography or a single-author essay volume or a scientific dissertation written with this purpose, published within five years that cannot be the same as the PhD paper.
