What can you study?

Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) is a pioneering Hungarian public research university based in Budapest. Founded in 1635, ELTE is one of the culturally richest and most prestigious universities of Hungarian higher education. The university is organised into eight faculties, located throughout Budapest and on the scenic banks of the Danube, The Faculty of Humanities is the oldest, as well as largest faculty of the university, offering an globally-competitive educational portfolio: with 16 institutes and 64 departments offering 5 Pre-University, 59 Bachelor’s, 76 Master’s and 71 PhD programmes of 5 doctoral schools.

An overview:
  • The Faculty of Humanities offers English education on every level, ranging from a preparatory year, English for Specific Purposes training, to Bachelor and Master programmes.
  • In 2016, the Faculty launched a state of the art Pre-Medical programme, preparing students for higher education in a medical field
  • Foreign language B.A. and M.A. programmes. The Faculty teaches an incredible 60+ foreign languages, many of which international students can apply for.
  • An Intensive Hungarian Language courses for non-native speakers
  • In addition to language programmes, we instruct master courses in English:
- Film Studies (in collaboration with the Budapest Film Academy.)
- Logic and Theory of Science
- Semiotics
- TEMA Erasmus Mundus Masters Course (admissions and more information)
  • Doctoral programmes (PhD) in Literary Studies, Linguistics, Philosophy, and History. (PhD programmes and admissions are handled entirely by the Doctoral Office).
