Faculty's ranking climbs even higher (2012.11.22.) |

In the case of several institutions, the number of instructors in possession of
academic titles granted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the number of
Academy members were not taken into consideration by the ranking of the 2013 Diploma
Supplement of HVG due to unreliable data sources. Therefore, a modified ranking
was published which places our Faculty to an even higher rank compared to previous
years.

On 5 January, Dr. Deborah L. Loers, Dean of Students of Wartburg College, Waverly,
Iowa visited the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE to conduct negotiations with Dean
Tamás Dezső in what is the opening phase of a process that seeks to strengthen
the Faculty’s international relations by offering the possibility to foreign
students to live and study in Hungary for 8-12 weeks. “Over the past two
years, we have experienced a dramatic increase in the number of foreign students,
who wish to study in the rarefied air of academia and earn their degrees at our
Faculty.

Reception for the diplomatic corps (2010.11.11.) |

On 11th November 2010 the Faculty of Humanities organised a large-scale reception
for the diplomatic and consular corps accredited to the Republic of Hungary. The
event was organised with the purpose of celebrating the auspicious occasion of
the 375th anniversary of the foundation of ELTE.

On August 30,2010 Mr Alexander Stubb, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Finland, accompanied by His Excellency Mr Jari Vilén, Ambassador of Finland,
visited our Faculty. Following a short conversation with Dr Tamás Dezső, Dean of
the Faculty of Humanities, Mr Stubb met with students of the Department of Finno-Ugric
Studies and the Department’s Director, Prof Dr Ferenc Havas.

The 375th anniversary of the foundation of Eötvös Loránd University was commemorated
on June 25th 2010, when in the presence of the university’s leadership ELTE
rector Ferenc Hudecz placed a wreath on the commemorative plaque marking the location
of the university’s earlier headquarters.

ELTE's 375th anniversary (2010.05.12.) |

With a celebratory session of the senate on 12 May 2010 the series of events celebrating
ELTE's 375th anniversary was launched. At the opening, held in ELTE's Aula Magna,
President László Sólyom and Cardinal Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest Péter Erdő
also gave welcoming speeches.

On 23 April 2010 Foreign Minister of Săo Tomé and Príncipe H. E. Dr. Carlos Tiny
was received by Tamás Dezső, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE. The minister
was given the Silver Medal of the University by the dean.

Our Faculty's student to Climb Everest (2010.03.18.) |

Dávid Klein, a student of Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE, is preparing
to climb Everest without oxygen cylinders. The young mountaineer is to set off
together with László Várkonyi. If Várkonyi and Klein succeed, they will be the
first in the history of Hungarian mountaineering to reach the highest point in
the world without oxygen.

Prime Minister of the Mongolian Republic, who visited the campus on 11 March.

Indian Minister opens an Indology Conference at our Faculty (2010.02.03.) |

 |
3 February 2010 saw the beginning of a conference at the Faculty of Humanities
of ELTE with the title "Letting the Texts Speak". The three-day event began with
a ceremony including an address by the Indian Minister of Trade and Industry.

On 13 November 2009 BTK held a celebration for its academic staff and invited
guests. Present on the podium were the leadership of the faculty: Tamás Dezső,
Dean, and Deputy Deans Csaba Borsodi, Ferenc Pál and Géza Orlovszky, as well as
Dean's Commissioner Koloman Brenner.

President of Estonia visited our Faculty (2009.10.05.) |

 |
On 5 October 2009 Estonian president Toomas Hendrik Ilves came to ELTE during his
official visit to Hungary. Vice-dean Magdolna Orosz and Dean Tamás Dezső gave a
brief overview of the university and BTK's work and plans, then everybody walked
over to the Finno-Ugrian Department to meet and talk to tutors and students of
Estonian.
