ELTE BTK Strengthens its Position as Hungary’s Leading Faculty of Humanities

Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) has once again confirmed its position as Hungary’s top higher education institution in 2025, both in terms of national admissions and international recognition. With a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, ELTE continues to attract the highest number of applicants across the country, maintaining its leadership in multiple disciplines.
ELTE’s Faculty of Humanities (ELTE BTK) continues to lead the field of humanities in Hungary, both in terms of academic excellence and international appeal. The faculty’s interdisciplinary approach, international partnerships, and research-driven teaching make it a hub for students interested in culture, language, and society. In the 2025 autumn semester, the faculty will welcome nearly 1,000 international students, confirming its growing global reputation.
634 students will begin full-degree programs, while 108 students will participate in partial studies. Additionally, 253 students will join the faculty through Erasmus and other mobility programs. Notably, 294 international students are starting full BA or MA programs at ELTE BTK – a 50% increase compared to last year. Furthermore, 45 new international students will begin their doctoral studies at ELTE BTK, further strengthening the global academic community. The number of admitted self-financed international students has also risen significantly, reaching 573, which marks a 48% growth year-over-year.
These figures reflect the faculty’s commitment to high-quality, research-based education and its expanding portfolio of English-language programs. With a diverse academic offering and a vibrant international community, ELTE BTK remains a top destination for students interested in culture, languages, history, and the social sciences.
