ELTE is still on the top

HVG is one of the leading economic and social news portal and publisher in Hungary. It publishes the HVG Diploma magazine once a year with the up-to-date ranking of the higher-education institutions in Hungary.

The current ranking has been published on 20 November this year. According to this, ELTE is still leading the ranking based on the excellence of the PhD professors. The University of Debrecen is on the second place, while the University of Szeged achieved the third place this time.

Regarding to the excellence of students, ELTE preserved its leading position as well. In the ranking based on the first-place applications, performance on highschool competitions, and achieved language exams Budapest University of Technology and Economics is on the second place followed by Corvinus University of Budapest on the third place.

In the 2021 ranking, ELTE achieved 2 places from the 3 of the podium in the competition of universities and colleges:

ELTE BTK (Faculty of Humanities) is side to side with Semmelweis University Faculty of Medicine on the leading position, while the third place is achieved by ELTE's Faculty of Sciences.

ELTE's leading position in the combined ranking has not changed for years. In this ranking, the two church-financed institutions, Pázmány Péter Catholic University and Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church also appear amongthe first 10 institutions. The combined ranking is counted based on the numbers of first-place applications, the accepted students' point average, the achieved language exams of the freshmen, performance on highschool competitions, number of PhD professors, and the number of full-time students per instructor. ELTE is usually among the top universities of Hungary both in local and international rankings.
