Fees and Finances

Fees and Finances

Payment deadlines for self-paying, full-time & guest students:

Autumn semester: 15 October (Foundation students: by the day of the registration. The fee has to show up in the student's neptun account.)
Spring semester: 15 March (Foundation students: by the beginning of the first week of the spring term. The fee has to show up in the student's neptun account.)

How to pay

From 2022/23/1, the payment method for the tuition fee is different than it used to be. It is a great achievement now that the tuition fee payment has also been integrated to Neptun system, so you have to pay via Neptun from now on. We really hope this way the payment is going to be easier, quicker, and more trackable.

  • In Neptun, you will find the payment liability under the Finances/Payments menu. There you can check the amount you need to pay, the deadline for payment, and also check the fulfilment after paying.
  • In the case of the tuition fee, card payment is not possible yet.
  • The available payment option is money transfer to your Neptun account. You transfer the amount to your Neptun account, then in a few days, the sum will appear under the same menu mentioned above.
  • Really important: the tuition fee payment is EUR based, you have to transfer EUR.
  • All other payments (that are not tuition fee) are in HUF. e.g. dormitory fee, sport course fees, late registration fees, second course registration, credit exceeding, etc.
  • The EUR and the HUF based payments has two different bank account numbers, so be careful when you transfer. You will not be able to complete the EUR payment if you transferred the money to the HUF account, vica versa.
  • Take into consideration that it can be different country by country how long it takes for your EUR to arrive at Hungary, then at your Neptun account. Thus do not leave the transfer for the last moment. Count 5-10 days at least until the money appears in your Neptun.
  • It is essential for the successful transfer also to fill in the notification/notice/message section correctly when you transfer: NK-your own Neptun code (6 digits) e.g. NK-ABCD12. Be careful when you fill in the section with handwriting, make a difference between number zero and letter O if your Neptun code contains one of these. Your payment will be identified and connected to your Neptun with your Neptun code, so add it to the notification/notice/message part of the transfer request. If it is missing, the money will not appear in your Neptun.
  • Be sure the sum you transfer is appropriate. Bank costs, transfer cost and other commission fees can be included when your transfer. If the sum that arrives at the ELTE Neptun account is less, even with a Euro, than your tuition fee, the payment cannot be completed in Neptun.
  • Always keep a proof of the transfer with you in case the sum does not arrive appropriately to your Neptun account. A complaint and tracking is possible only with the bankslip or screenshot of the successful transfer.
The bank account number, transfer details and further information are available on the following site, please read it, and follow the instructions precisely (follow the English instructions, even if you speak Hungarian, because the Hungarian description is different): https://qter.elte.hu/Statikus.aspx/GyIK-Penzugy

From 29 September 2022, ELTE do not accept tuition fees transferred by the old method. If you transfer to a HUF based acccount, not the EUR one, the tuition fee will not be credited.

If something is not clear, or you are not sure about some steps, please contact Ms Katalin Szabó coordinator before the transfer: iso@btk.elte.hu

Tuition Fees

Our new tuition fee structure is effective from the first day of the academic year of the spring semester 2022/2023 based on the decision of the Faculty Council.
Note that the increase of the tuition fee will not affect students retroactively. Only students applying after the first day of the new academic year (study period) will be requested to pay the new, increased fees.

Tuition Fee Payment Deadline
Once you have been accepted into one of its programs, The Faculty of Humanities requires its applicants to settle the payment of the tuition fee for up to one semester in advance.
Newly admitted students must pay the tuition fee 14 calendar days after receiving a Letter of Acceptance. Once the sum of your tuition fee has been credited to the university's bank account, you will receive a Confirmation of Payment, which might be needed during the process of the visa application. Please note: issuing the Certificate of Payment might take 10 working days.

After the first semester, the payment deadlines are as follows in the case of continuing (old) students:
  • Fall semester: 15 October
  • Spring semester: 15 March

non-EEA nationals
If you require a visa to come to Hungary for the purpose of studies, we strongly recommend you transfer the tuition fee for the first two semesters to the university's account as soon as possible after getting accepted.

EEA nationals
If you are an European Economic Area (EEA) national, the Faculty requires you to pay for the tuition fee up to one semester in advance. As soon as you transfer the tuition fee, and have met with one of International Student Advisors to set you up, you will be able to register for classes in line with the university's registration schedule.

Important notice: Please only transfer the tuition fee to the university’s account after you have been accepted into one of our programs. You will receive a Notification of Payment, which will provide you with further instructions on the payment procedure. Do not pay until you have been officially accepted into the program.
