Dutch Brings People Together

In July, the ELTE Department of Netherlandic Studies organised the Comenius Summer School, welcoming students from 14 universities across 10 countries. Held between 6 and 18 July, the programme revolved around the theme “Heet!” (“Hot!”), which was reflected throughout both the language classes and the cultural activities.

During the ten-day course, participants deepened their knowledge of the Dutch language and culture under the guidance of four native Dutch and Flemish instructors. Mornings were dedicated to language classes, with students working in small groups in two 90-minute sessions each day. As a closing project, the participants created their own podcasts.

The afternoons offered a wide range of cultural and community programmes. In addition to interactive workshops, participants took part in activities such as a night walk, traditional Hungarian dance sessions, outdoor cooking, and rowing, allowing them not only to learn but also to get to know one another and explore Budapest more closely.

Alongside intensive language learning, another key objective of the course was to create an international meeting point for students of Dutch Studies. We hope that many of the participants will return to ELTE in the future as Erasmus exchange students or as students in one of our master's programmes.
