Nasal flapping in English

My research focuses on lenition phenomena found in varieties of English, primarily on alveolar flapping. The flapping of alveolars /t/ and /d/ in American English is relatively well-explored; however, since flapping is an ever-evolving phenomenon, its frequency of occurrence and potential phonetic environments are quite diverse across different varieties of the language (e.g. Australian and New Zealand English). Another key point in my research is the phonetics of flapped nasals /n/ and nasal-plosive clusters /nt/ and /nd/, given that nasal articulation influences the acoustics of flap sounds and their environment substantially. My goal is to explore and pinpoint the acoustics, articulatory features, and perception of flaps in current varieties of English.
