Slovak linguistics

My research focuses on Slovak linguistics, primarily conducting sociolinguistic, dialectological, and onomastic studies 1. I investigate bilingual speech strategies, such as code-switching and code-mixing, and their characteristic types and causes within the speech communities of the Slovak national minority in Hungary 2. My dialectological research also concentrates on the Slovak language community in Hungary, specifically on the dialect of the former glassworks settlements in the Bükk Mountains, its collection, and documentation 3. Within the framework of onomastic studies, I focus on the process of name Magyarization among the Slovaks of the Bükk region, as well as uncovering the naming motivations, morphological characteristics, and dialectal features of Slavic family names before Magyarization. My research also extends to local Slovak geographical names.

Slovak Linguistics: Dialectology, Onomastics, Sociolinguistics

I carry out regular research among Slovaks in Hungary: I study the dialect of Slovaks in Hungary, the speech strategies of bilingualism (types of code-switching and code-mixing) and the phenomenon, motives and results of name-changing among Slovaks in the Bükk. In addition to personal names, I also deal with the collection and onomastic analysis of geographical names.
