My research focuses predominantly on contemporary foreign and domestic policy developments in Turkey. In the former context, I analyse in particular Turkey's foreign policy in the Middle East (both in relation to the Arab world and the Kurds), while in the latter I examine the role of parties, elections, populism and Islamism in Turkey. I also deal with migration issues (Syrian refugees) and energy policy (oil and gas) in relation to Turkey.

Part of my research covers modern political, economic and social conditions in the Arab world, with a particular focus on the contemporary developments in Egypt, Iraq, Syria, the Gulf States and Libya.
