Personalised Instruction for Exceptional Cases (PIEC)
Students who arrive later than the official enrolment date or have a long-term health issue may request for a Personalised Instruction for Exceptional Cases (PIEC) for the semester.

What is a Personalised Instruction for Exceptional Cases (PIEC)?

  • Agreement between the student and the lecturers on the conditions of completing a course in a different time frame or with different specifics.
  • NOT equivalent with the online or distant education. Students are responsible for keeping contact with the teachers and progressing with the courses.

Absence policy at ELTE BTK – in-person (offline) education

At our Faculty, the education is primarily offline, and we do not provide online education. There are 2 kinds of classes:

  • Lecture – attendance is not always required (but recommended) depending on the lecturer
  • Seminar (Practice) – attendance is compulsory! You must be present! You can be absent from 10% of the classes. It usually means 3 occasions depending on the total number of classes/ semester.

What happens if I miss more classes? – In this case, the professor is not allowed to give you a grade according to the Academic Regulations, even if you attend the rest of the classes. This affects your overall academic results and can cost you extra fees (e.g. second registration fee for a course).

What should I do if I arrive later?

Please be careful because there are certain administrative steps that you must go through online, even if you arrive later. Everyone has to do the following things regardless of their arrival date:

  • Semester activation in Neptun (until 11 February 20:00)
  • Course registration in Neptun (until 16 February 16:00)

If you arrive between 5-12 February:

  • Since tuition starts on 12 February, it is not a problem. Just join the orientation programmes, and book an appointment for the registration & enrolment.

If you arrive between 12 February - 2 March:

  • Let your coordinators know!
  • Join the classes. Be careful! Although you can miss 10% of the classes, the tuition starts on 12 February. Therefore, we highly recommend you contact your teachers before this date to ask for the material, and do start the learning from the beginning. (You can turn to your coordinators for the contact information of the teachers.)
  • Book an appointment for the registration & enrolment.

If you arrive after 2 March:

  • Let your coordinators know!
  • You have to submit the request for a Personalised Instruction for Exceptional Cases (PIEC) until 16 February 16:00, because by this date, you will have missed more than 10% of your classes at each course. This way, you will not be able to get a grade, unless you have a valid PIEC.
  • You find the detailed guide on how to submit the PIEC HERE.+ Neptun guide.
  • An approved PIEC request enables you to get a grade even if you miss more than 10% of the classes. For that, you might have to hand in extra work or take part in consultations with your teachers depending on the requirements the teacher has for you.
  • Please note that with an approved PIEC request, you still have to start learning from 12 February.
  • The PIEC also enables you to do the enrolment online. Please note that it is not possible to enrol after 2 March.
The submission deadline is 16:00, 16 February 2024.

If you arrive later than 2 March and you have not submitted the PIEC by the deadline (16 February 2024), you will not get a grade for your courses and you will not be able to complete your semester. You can enrol until 2 March.
